The eyewitnesses quickly helped the victims by turning the car around to save them before taking them to Dayanand Medical College Hospital. Chhabra succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital.
Inspector Vijay Kumar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Dharampal Chaudhary of Division Number 5 police station arrived at the spot soon after being alerted. ASI Chaudhary stated that Chhabra’s family had attended a ‘Barsi’ ceremony for his brother-in-law and returned home around 11.30 pm after picking up food items to share with the needy.
As they approached the Jawahar Nagar junction, the other car sped in front of them at high speed.
Police have seized the other car and are investigating its ownership, which is registered with a private company in Feroze Gandhi Market. The relevant authorities are working to identify the driver who fled the scene of the accident. The police have now filed a case against the unknown person for negligent homicide.
