Jesse Eisenberg says his new film about a Holocaust tour isn’t hypocritical

Hollywood actor Jesse Eisenberg said his new film about two cousins ​​who embark on a Holocaust tour was not meant to be hypocritical.

The 41-year-old Zombieland star, who wrote, directed and starred in the film A Real Pain, plays David alongside Succession actor Kieran Culkin as his cousin Benji.

Speaking on the red carpet at the 68th BFI London Film Festival on Sunday evening, he told the PA news agency: “I like to write things that sort of deal with bigger issues but present them in a way that doesn’t seem academic.”

“So with this film I’m tackling a big theme because it’s about cousins ​​who go on a Holocaust tour, but the film doesn’t give the impression of hypocrisy or the fact that we’re all doing our homework, right.” We are all somehow completely respectful and don’t talk during this important conversation.

“I wanted it to be a relatable, accessible film that could be funny and sad and show all the things that would happen if you took a trip to a difficult place with your childhood best friend.

“There’s a funny scene in the film where Kieran’s character, we’re in Poland with this tour group, comes across these huge statues that look like 25-foot tall statues of Polish soldiers.

“And instead of showing complete awe, Kieran (Benji) decides to take the entire tour group along to take photos as if we were also traveling with soldiers.

“And I had written this funny scene and showed it to my sister that night, and my sister said there’s only one actor who could play this role of Benji – it’s Kieran Culkin.

“And so it was kind of in the back of my mind. And then, God, was I lucky? And God, wasn’t she exactly right?”

Eisenberg also revealed that his next film will begin filming in March and that he would like to shoot one film per year.
