Tragic drowning of a 45-year-old man in Lagos River linked to drug use

A 45-year-old man named Kazeem has drowned in a river in Odo Tente, a community bordering Lagos and Ogun States. The incident happened around 11 a.m. on Friday

Kazeem had reportedly consumed a hard drug, presumably from Colorado, before drowning. Witnesses say he exhibited erratic behavior and jumped into the river in a state of desperation.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, detailing how Kazeem died. “On 11/10/2024 at about 11 a.m., a complainant in Alagbado Division reported that a 45-year-old Kazeem, “M”, under the influence of a hard drug, suspected to be Colorado, ran uncontrollably and into a river at Odo Tente border between Lagos and Ogun State jumped. As a result, the victim drowned and died.”

Following the tragedy, investigators from the Alagbado Division arrived at the scene to collect evidence and document the circumstances of Kazeem’s death. Hundeyin noted that when he contacted Kazeem’s father, he requested that the body be buried immediately on the river bank in accordance with their cultural customs.

Despite the family’s wishes, Hundeyin confirmed that an investigation into the incident was underway.
