Hezbollah drone strike in Israel kills several IDF soldiers and injures dozens of people: reports

Four Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers were killed and nearly 60 people injured in a drone attack on a military base in Binyamina, Israel, which the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah has claimed responsibility, according to reports.

“Yesterday, a UAV launched by the terrorist organization Hezbollah hit a military base,” the IDF said in a post on X. “[Four] IDF soldiers were killed in the incident. The IDF shares the grief of the bereaved and will continue to accompany them.”

Emergency services in Israel reported on Sunday that almost 60 people had been injured in the attack, some of them critically.

Israeli media reported that two drones were launched from Lebanon, one of which was intercepted.

Iran and its proxy terrorist groups fired massive waves of rockets against Israel earlier this year in April and again on October 1. Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) was deployed to Israel back in 2019, but only for an exercise at the Pentagon, officials say.

Sunday’s attack came on the same day that the United States announced it would send a new air defense system to Israel to increase protection against missiles.

“The THAAD battery will expand Israel’s integrated air defense system. This action underscores the United States’ ironclad commitment to defending Israel and defending Americans in Israel from further ballistic missile attacks by Iran. It is part of the broader adjustments.” “The U.S. military has taken actions in recent months to support Israel’s defense and protect Americans from attacks by Iran and Iran-aligned militias,” the Pentagon said in a statement .

Iran’s massive rocket fire on October 1 demonstrated the threat Iran poses to Israel as a regional power. While debris from hundreds of rockets and missiles rained down on Israeli territory, no Israeli fatalities were reported.
