Buccaneers RB Sean Tucker leads the ground attack in New Orleans

Against the Saints in Week 6, the Buccaneers finished the game with a whopping 277 yards on the ground, tied for the third-most in franchise history. Sean Tucker became the catalyst, finishing the game with 136 rushing yards, a 9.7 per tote average and a touchdown. He gave the Bucs a 24-20 lead in the second quarter by hauling in a catch from Mayfield while sitting in space and causing defenders to miss their target on the way to the end zone.

“It speaks to a man’s character,” Chris Godwin said. “Sean has never complained since he got here, even though he has waited and worked hard to be prepared for this opportunity. When she came, he was ready and took full advantage. And I think you could kind of see your chance.” The confidence is growing. I think he’s faster than people think and I’m proud of him.

Tucker, an undrafted rookie who signed with the team out of Syracuse in 2023, was projected as a mid-round pick but drew a medical flag at the NFL combine that prevented him from participating, one that was later cleared by doctors became. He has continued to make the most of his opportunities on the field and wears number 44, a number worn by legendary running backs Jim Brown, Ernie Davis and Floyd Little. On Sunday against the Saints, he fueled the ground attack.

“It was a physically strong game for the guys up front [and] “The tight ends, all the skill guys that block,” Baker Mayfield noted. “I mentioned it early on, the backs, when [the Saints] We know that late in the game we run the ball so people miss their target over and over again with no blocks, that’s great. We have to build on that. We have to be able to bring that mentality week in and week out.”

Tucker runs with excellent contact balance to move forward after contact. He evades defenders in the open field and is patient in letting his blocks unfold. With his good lateral cutting ability from the inside and his strength to power through arm tackles, Tucker is skilled. He has an innate instinct for giving attackers as much space as possible and became a key factor in the Bucs’ successful offensive performance in New Orleans. With Rachaad White sidelined with a foot injury, Tucker flashed on the gridiron when his number was called. His prowess in the open field and his drive to fight for extra yards fueled the team’s ground performance.
