One person was killed and another injured in a fiery disabled vehicle crash on State Highway 4 in Antioch early Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 5:13 a.m. on eastbound Highway 4 west of A Street. Investigators determined that a gray Honda CR-V stalled in the #4 lane for an unknown reason while the male driver was inside the vehicle.

A blue Ford F-150 pickup, also traveling east on Highway 4, struck the rear of the Honda, which immediately burst into flames, trapping the Honda driver in the CHP, he said. The Honda was pronounced dead at the scene, while the Ford driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Driving under the influence was not a factor in the crash, the CHP said.

The No. 3 and No. 4 eastbound lanes of Highway 4 were closed following the crash, which remains under investigation. The CHP urged anyone who witnessed the crash or events leading up to it to contact CHP Contra Costa in Martinez at (925) 646-4980 or email contact information to [email protected] , so that the investigating officer can make contact.
