Falcons vs. Panthers tips, predictions and best bets – NFL Week 6

With Kirk Cousins having his best performance as a member of the Atlanta Falcons, we expect the veteran quarterback’s success to continue as he faces a formidable NFC South rival.

The Atlanta Falcons are making their move into the NFC South after back-to-back dramatic wins, and Kirk Cousins & Co. face a favorable matchup against a Carolina Panthers team limping through another nightmare season.

My Falcons vs. Panthers predictions are jumping on the Atlanta bandwagon, with the visitors enjoying a 10-day break since beating the Bay Buccaneers in overtime last Thursday. Check out my NFL picks for this divisional game on Sunday, October 13th.

My analysis

If Kirk Cousins isn’t in rhythm after his 42-for-58 stat line in Week 5, he never will be. The Atlanta Falcons quarterback racked up 509 passing yards for the Bucs on the night – and the visitors must be in tears at the chance to take on an overwhelmed Carolina Panthers defense.

The 1-4 Panthers have given up 165 points in five games so far while allowing 371 yards per game. That spells trouble if Atlanta brings an all-out offense to Bank of America Stadium, and I’m rooting for the Falcons to cover a spread that’s still less than a touchdown. After all, Carolina took an early 7-0 lead against Chicago in Week 5 – and still lost 36-10.

While Atlanta has benefited from a home schedule, I’m gaining confidence from their Week 2 road win over Philadelphia. With Jadeveon Clowney doubtful, I don’t think the Panthers will generate much of a pass rush, and that should pave the way for Cousins to get to work in a clean pocket.

Even with the steadier Andy Dalton under center, Carolina enters with a limited offense — just 16.6 points per game in 2024 — and the hosts are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games. For an up-and-coming Falcons team, this feels like a two-way street.

Falcons -6

Chubba Hubbard Over 63.5 rushing yards

Kirk Cousins Over 1.5 passing touchdowns

It’s been hard for Carolina to find a glimmer of hope this season, but Chubba Hubbard continues to make his mark in the ground game. Hubbard has overcome that O/U line in his last three outings as the Panthers’ lead back, recording at least 97 rushing yards in each of them, and he should find running lanes on Sunday against a Falcons defense that is giving up 148 rushing yards per game.

The Panthers were willing to establish the run despite the deficit, and I see Hubbard hitting the over even if Carolina’s script leans toward the passing game in the second half.

I’m also betting on a big game for Cousins with the over at 1.5 passing touchdowns. He threw four TD passes last time out, and the red zone is an embarrassment of riches for Atlanta with Drake London, Kyle Pitts and Darnell Mooney able to take advantage of matchups. There’s every chance the Falcons are living in Carolina territory in this game, and Cousins connected with three different receivers for points in Week 5.

The struggling Panthers have allowed at least two passing touchdowns in every game this season, and I’m betting that trend will continue here as things get worse for the hosts.

Falcons vs. Panthers distribution and over/under analysis

  • The Falcons are considered away favorites and have won six of the last 10 meetings between these teams, including a 24-10 win last year.
  • Carolina has lost four straight games at Bank of America Stadium and has only been able to cover the lead in one of those games.
  • The O/U total is at 47, and trends point to the over reached in the Panthers’ last three games, largely thanks to offenses taking advantage of their secondary.
  • Atlanta has reached the 1H over in 13 of its last 21 contests and Carolina has allowed 70 points in the last two weeks.
