Drunk man arrested after driving an SUV with no tires into a police cruiser in Brook Park

BROOKPARK, Ohio – An intoxicated 38-year-old Cleveland man was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 2 after he refused to stop his sport-utility vehicle for police, then jumped out of the SUV and ran away .

Police saw the man driving south on Engle Road near Hummel Road. The front end of the SUV was severely damaged. One of the front tires was missing.

Police attempted to stop the SUV, but the man did not stop. He turned east onto Hummel and ran a stop sign. He then turned back toward Engle and headed south in the northbound lanes.

The man drove toward a patrol car that was chasing him. He tried to pass the patrol car, but his SUV struck the front bumper of the patrol car.

Another patrol car blocked the SUV as it continued south, and the man stopped his vehicle. The man got out of the SUV and ran east into a parking lot on Engle Street. He stumbled and fell to the ground.

The man tried to get up, but police pushed him back to the ground. After wrestling with him, they handcuffed him.

Police searched the man, who spat profanities and tried to escape. Police eventually forced him into the back seat of a patrol car.

The man’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He smelled of alcohol and his speech was slurred. He admitted to drinking alcohol.
