Will the Blue Angels be able to fly today? Here is the weather forecast

After the Blue Angels canceled their show on Saturday due to cloud cover, the prospects for at least an air show on Sunday are brighter as sky conditions in San Francisco improve by the afternoon.

A deep marine layer and thick cloud cover again covered large parts of the Bay Area on Sunday morning. However, unlike Saturday’s forecast, which predicted increasing cloud cover throughout the day, Sunday’s outlook is more favorable for the U.S. Navy team’s Fleet Week show.

As the morning progresses, drier air will continue to enter the region from the north, gradually eroding cloud cover. By late morning, sometime after 11am, sunshine will develop quickly inland, with some breaks in cloud cover around the city.

The key factor that determines whether the Blue Angels do a full show, a limited show or no show at all is the height of the cloud layer, called cloud cover.

According to the U.S. Navy, the Blue Angels require a minimum cloud cover of 8,000 feet and visibility of 3 miles to conduct their “high” show, which includes all maneuvers.

It appears that by 1 or 2 p.m. enough dry air will reach the city to clear the clouds. Cloud cover should be at least 4,500 feet to allow the Blue Angels to put on a “low” show with some rolling maneuvers during the military tribute in San Francisco.

There is a chance that there will be enough sunshine to completely erode the cloud layer and allow for a full or “high” display. But trust in this solution is currently low.
