ITV’s Corrie’s original Blanche actress only appeared in two episodes before her tragic death | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

Coronation Street has become one of Britain’s most popular soap operas since it aired in 1960 and has featured countless characters on screen, including Blanche. But what loyal fans may have forgotten is that the iconic lady, who was often seen turning heads on the cobbles, was originally played by Patrica Cutts.

ITV had high hopes for the actress after casting her in 1974. But after appearing in just two episodes in August, she was found dead in her apartment at the age of 45.

Patricia Cutts had appeared in a number of television shows before her role in Corrie. And was mentioned in the films North by Northwest (1959), Alfred Hitchcock Presents – Flight to the East (1958) and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour – Body in the Barn (1964).

She came from an artistic dynasty and was the daughter of the writer and director Graham Cutt. Meanwhile, her mother Robin Coles is also said to have been an actress.

However, she was found dead in her London apartment in September 1974 after taking an overdue overdose of alcohol and barbiturates. The inquest into her death resulted in a verdict of suicide.

Maggie Jones took over the role shortly after Patrica’s death after wowing bosses with her talent.

Blanche is a comical character as she is Deidre’s mother. She often shared witty remarks or acted out a dramatic eye-rolling moment.

Maggie, who died in 2009 at the age of 75, first appeared as a police officer in the series in 1961. Although she took over the role completely in 1999 and became a full-time actress.

After being forced to give up filming, she continued acting until her final months, and just days later her death was broadcast on Corrie.

Maggie played Blanche for 25 years and the character became Coronation Street’s most recognizable face, with many stars mourning her death.

Her family had hoped she would make a full recovery after she felt better and appeared to be alert again despite the operation.

Although the situation took a frightening turn for the worse and she became significantly worse, it was said that she felt fine and died peacefully in her sleep.

Maggie won several comedy awards for the role of Blanche in 1974 and became famous for her sharp-tongued one-liners.
