Man dead after armed attack at Guy-Concordia subway station

A man died from his injuries after an altercation with another man on a platform at the Guy-Concordia subway station on Saturday evening.

This was the 29th murder of 2024 on the island of Montreal.

“At around 11:20 p.m., a 37-year-old man was attacked with a sharp object on his upper body,” said Montreal police spokesman Jean-Pierre Brabant on Sunday on the subway platform heading to the Honoré-Beaugrand terminus.

The victim was taken to hospital where he died from his injuries.

There have been no arrests so far, but investigators from the Major Crimes Unit are working through the file to determine the causes and circumstances of the incident, Brabant said.

Subway service at Guy-Concordia station, which had been suspended, resumed Sunday morning, with the subway entrance at St-Mathieu St. and de Maisonneuve Blvd. W. remained closed: The Métro entrance at Guy St. and de Maisonneuve is open to passengers.

A command post was set up and de Maisonneuve was closed to vehicle traffic between Guy and St-Matheiu. The bike path and sidewalk remain accessible.
