Young woman and friend die in accident near Aliyar

A young woman and her male friend died after the scooter they were traveling on collided with a TNSTC bus near Aliyar in Coimbatore district on Saturday.

According to police, S. Kaviya Shree, 20, of Panidan Nagar in Tiruppur, who was staying in a hostel for working women at Hope College in the city, was traveling with Sabari, 19, from Sevur Road near Tiruppur to Valparai, to complete an undergraduate degree at a private university in the city. They were traveling on a scooter when they approached the bridge over Palar river at NM Sungam on Pollachi-Valparai Road around 2 pm. Kaviya Shree maneuvered the scooter to overtake a car but collided head-on with a TNSTC bus. The two suffered serious head injuries and died on the spot.

Aliyar police shifted the bodies of the deceased to District Headquarters Hospital in Pollachi and Government Medical College and ESI Hospital in Coimbatore. The bodies were handed over to relatives after the autopsy on Sunday. Police have registered a case in connection with the accident.
