Former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was tragically shot dead in a targeted attack by three assailants in Bandra East district of Mumbai on Saturday evening. At around 9:30 p.m., the attackers, who had their faces covered, got out of their vehicle and fired six shots at Siddique outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office. Two bullets hit Siddique in the chest. Although he was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, he succumbed to his injuries soon after. Following his death, Bollywood stars including Salman Khan and Shilpa Shetty were seen at the hospital late Saturday evening.

An emotional video from Baba Siddique’s funeral surfaced today, showing his son Zeeshan in a heartbroken state. The clip shared by popular paparazzo Viral Bhayani shows Zeeshan crying during Namaz-E-Janaza and the funeral. The heartbreaking footage also highlights the heavy rain that fell during the funeral.

A 9.9mm pistol was used in the shooting, leading investigators to believe it was a contract killing. In addition to the three attackers, another person is suspected of passing on information to the attackers. The gunmen were reportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and had been monitoring Siddique and his family before the attack.

Baba Siddique had recently quit the Congress to join Ajit Pawar’s NCP earlier this year and had received death threats just 15 days before the attack. Although it was a category “Y” security level, the tragic incident occurred. Dr. Nitin Gokhale of Lilavati Hospital confirmed that Siddique was admitted with two bullet wounds and was declared dead at 11:27 pm despite efforts to revive him.

Police have arrested two suspects, Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana and Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap, 19, from UP. Several teams have been formed to investigate the case, with authorities also probing the involvement of the Bishnoi gang.

The former MLA was known not only for his political acumen but also for throwing lavish Bollywood parties. A cold war between Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan was settled at an Iftaar party hosted by him in 2013.
