TDP office attack case handed over to CID

The Andhra Pradesh government has handed over the case related to the attack on Telugu Desam Party (TDP) headquarters and N. Chandrababu Naidu’s residence to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in 2021.

The state government has issued orders and forwarded the cases to the criminal investigation department. Both incidents are currently being investigated by Mangalagiri and Tadepalli police stations.

Since both police stations are handling several cases, the government has decided to entrust CID investigations with the cases related to attacks on TDP office and Naidu’s house.

The files on the two cases will be handed over to the criminal police on Monday for rapid investigation.

A large number of YSRCP supporters attacked the TDP office on October 19, 2021 after TDP spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram made some objectionable comments against the then Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The YSRCP supporters had stormed into the TDP office and ransacked the premises, damaging furniture and breaking windows. The TDP leaders had alleged that the attackers armed with sticks and even hammers damaged the cars parked in front of the office.

In September 2021, some YSRCP leaders also allegedly attacked the residence of TDP president and then Leader of Opposition Chandrababu Naidu.

After the TDP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) came to power in June this year, police launched a fresh investigation in both cases.

Former YSRCP MLC Nandigama Suresh, MLCs Lella Appireddy and Talasila Raghuram and party chief Devineni Avinash were among others named in the TDP office attack case.

Last month, police arrested former MP and YSR Congress Party leader Nandigama Suresh after the Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed anticipatory bail applications filed by him and other leaders.

Former minister Jogi Ramesh, other YSRCP leaders and their supporters have been booked over the alleged attack on Naidu’s residence.
