R. Kelly’s daughter Buku Abi claims her father abused her as a child in a new two-part documentary series.

Abi, who shares Kelly with ex-wife Andrea “Drea” Kelly, detailed her alleged sexual abuse in an episode of the series “Karma: A Daughter’s Journey.”

“He was my everything. For a long time I didn’t even want to believe it happened. “I didn’t know he would hurt me even if he was a bad person,” Abi, whose legal name is Joann Kelly, said in the documentary. Abi added that she was “too scared to tell anyone. I was too scared to tell my mother.”

She continued, “I really feel like that one millisecond completely changed my entire life and who I was as a person and how the shine that I had and the light that I carried was changed,” Abi said : “After I told my mother, I stopped going there; my brother (Robert) and my sister (Jaah), we didn’t go there anymore.”

In a statement to People magazine, Kelly’s attorney, Jennifer Bonjean, said: “Mr. Kelly vehemently denies these allegations. His ex-wife made the same accusation years ago, which was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and found to be unfounded… And the “filmmakers,” whoever they are, don’t even have the opportunity to do so to Mr. Kelly or his team given to deny these hurtful allegations.”

USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for R. Kelly and the documentary for comment.

On Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the imprisoned former R&B superstar’s appeal of his 2022 federal conviction on charges related to child pornography and luring underage girls to have sex with him, one of two cases in which he was convicted of sex crimes was found guilty. Kelly, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison, was acquitted of seven other charges, including obstruction of justice and conspiracy to receive child pornography.

Buku Abi was “a different person” after the alleged abuse.

In the series, Abi delves into disturbing details of the alleged sexual abuse, saying the alleged incident occurred when she was 8 or 9 years old.

“I just remember waking up to him touching me,” she recalls through tears. “And I didn’t know what to do, so I just laid there and pretended to be asleep.” She added: “From that moment on I was a different person.”

Abi says: “It was hard to accept that it happened” and later had to tell her mother. The news “completely broke her heart,” she says of mother Drea Kelly.

Abi is one of the embattled artist’s three children with his ex-wife Drea Kelly; the two were married from 1996 to 2009.

In 2019, the “I Believe I Can Fly” singer sparked controversy when he shared a video on Instagram and Twitter in which he sang to his estranged daughter and said, “Happy birthday, baby.” Daddy loves you. I love you no matter what, I love you so much.

Abi began using a different name to differentiate herself from her father’s last name and took to social media back in January 2019 to publicly condemn Kelly for speaking to him. Abi spoke publicly about her relationship with her father, making damning allegations against her father that were highlighted in the Lifetime documentary “Surviving R. Kelly.”

“R. Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s Journey” is currently streaming on TVEI Streaming Network.
