As a child, I saw the spectacle of professional wrestling. It helps me understand American politics.

When I was little, my dad took me to watch professional wrestling at the Fairground Coliseum. Tall men with bleached blonde hair and covered in bronzer were seen as outsiders, rule breakers, heroes. They gave their opponents demeaning nicknames and feuded with everyone. If you weren’t a loyal fan, you were the enemy.

The other person always cheated, the game was never fair, the results were never final.

I was amazed that so many people thought what she had done was real and got caught up in the anger and drama. This experience helps me better understand modern politics.
