Police officer stabbed in Istanbul

Istanbul, October 13 (SocialNews.XYZ) A police officer was injured in central Istanbul, Turkey’s largest city, when a young man stabbed him from behind, local media reported.

The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. (local time) on Saturday on busy Istiklal Avenue, one of the most visited tourist spots on the European side of the city, Xinhua news agency reported, citing broadcaster NTV.

According to the report, the attacker walked up to the police officers standing on the street and stabbed him in the neck.

The suspect fled the scene after the incident but was subsequently arrested by police in the nearby Kasimpasa district. The injured officer was taken to a hospital for treatment. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but NTV has reported that the attacker was a patient with schizophrenia.

This incident marks the third attack on police in Istanbul in a month. The first case occurred on September 23, when a police officer was fatally shot in a shootout.

In another incident on October 4, another officer suffered serious injuries and the armed attacker was killed in an exchange of gunfire.
