The drama in New Ayrshire focuses on the first Eglinton tournament

“The Eglinton Tournament – A History (Fast)” takes a look at the first ever staging of the famous event.

It’s August 1839 and after the inexpensive coronation of a very young Queen Victoria, the Earl of Eglinton and his stepfather decide to put on a show with all the pomp and ceremony they can muster.

What could be better than a medieval tournament with flags, banners, knights, ladies and of course jousts…

Unless it’s in Scotland…in a flood plain. What could go wrong? And who will actually show up?

Join Three Towns NAE Drama participants in their 40-minute (almost) true retelling of this funny, fascinating and absurd local story.

NAE Drama was founded in July 2024 out of sheer passion, willpower and participant empowerment after funding cuts caused Triple Act Theater and Arts, the organization that originally brought them together, to close its doors.

NAE Drama is a locally rooted group that tells locally relevant stories to bring the local and wider community together. NAE Drama has already defied the narrative that they rely on funding to survive.

The tight-knit group is ready for success, full of enthusiasm, ambition and a desire to test the limits of what is possible, how far they can go – much like the Victorians and their medieval joust!

This show is a celebration of what can be achieved with a good story, fun and imagination, even without a budget and in a very short time.

Every ticket purchased will help NAE dramas continue to meet, discover their creative voices and grow as a positive force for the arts in the Three Towns and beyond.

The show takes place on Sunday October 27th at 1pm and 2pm at the Eglinton Racquet Hall in Eglinton Country Park.

Tickets cost £4.98 (including advance booking fee and cake) and are on sale now
