Tragic recovery: Coast Guard captain’s body found after helicopter crash

The remains of Commander Rakesh Kumar Rana, the captain of the ill-fated forecastle “Dhruv”. helicopter (ALH) were discovered after extensive search efforts. Rana, 38, had been missing since September 2 while he was overseeing a medical evacuation from the Indian-flagged tanker Hari Leela about 45 km off the Gujarat coast near Porbandar.

While one crew member was successfully rescued, the bodies of co-pilot Commander Vipin Babu and diver Karan Singh were recovered earlier. The Coast Guard, along with the Navy, conducted a tireless search operation, conducting over 70 air missions and devoting 82 ship days to the search for Rana.

An official confirmed the recovery of his remains from the sea on Thursday, marking the ceremonial conclusion to a months-long search.

This incident highlights the courage and commitment of Coast Guard personnel involved in rescue operations and demonstrates their commitment to saving lives even in difficult circumstances.
