Two burnt in accident in East Legon

According to reports, the accident occurred when one of the vehicles involved crashed into a wooden utility pole

Three unknown persons have been reported dead following a gruesome accident that occurred on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in East Legon, Accra.

According to CCTV footage, the accident was caused by speeding, which resulted in a fatal collision.

ADO Nartey, an official with the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), confirmed that a body has been recovered as the fire service continues its efforts to free another body trapped in the rubble. The victims were traveling in an Artura vehicle.

A video posted on the GNFS Facebook page shows firefighters using specialized equipment to cut through the charred remains of the vehicles as smoke still rises from the accident scene. Among the victims are two young women whose bodies were burned beyond recognition.

According to reports, the accident occurred when one of the vehicles involved crashed into a wooden utility pole. The impact caused the pole’s power cables to fall, igniting the fire that engulfed the vehicles. Both vehicles were completely destroyed by the flames.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the accident, which occurred Saturday afternoon and left the East Legon community in shock. The identification of the victims is still pending.
