A 20-year-old Clinton man was jailed Thursday after an alleged argument with his pregnant girlfriend turned violent.

According to Clinton Police Chief Anthony Davis, Shawnta Coston, of 216 Dogwood Circle, was charged with two counts of felony assault, assault on an unborn child and assault on a female.

The arrest came after officers were called to Sampson Regional Medical Center in response to a 16-year-old female who had reportedly jumped from a moving vehicle.

When Officer A. Lockamy arrived, she reportedly made contact with the juvenile female, who told the officer about a domestic incident that led to her jumping out of the vehicle, according to Davis.

Hospital officials told Lockamy that there was a second juvenile, also a female, in another room who was the victim of the same incident.

Davis said the victim told Lockamy that her boyfriend hit her and was driving at a high rate of speed. She told the officer that this caused one of the victims to jump out of the moving vehicle.

The second victim told the officer that the three were driving down Barden Street when an argument broke out. At that point, she said, her boyfriend, later identified as Coston, began driving at a high rate of speed and hit her.

The attack, Davis said, involved the suspect punching and grabbing the victim. He discovered that the victim was three months pregnant.

Both juveniles were treated at Sampson Regional and later released.

Coston was jailed on $75,000 bond around 2:30 p.m. Thursday. No court date was specified in the reports.
