Emory and Henry survive the Tusculum horror, UVA Wise falls to Anderson

Emory and Henry survive the Tusculum horror, UVA Wise falls to Anderson

Emory & Henry 23, Tusculum 21

The Wasps traveled to Greeneville to take on the Pioneers on Saturday. After forcing a three-and-out to open the game, it was Jordan Jackson who capped a five-play, 65-yard touchdown drive with the five-yard run. Wasps missed the extra point so it was a 6-0 game. Fast forward a bit: Jacob Robinson grabs the pick six and goes 29 yards to the house.

The Pioneers tried to get down the field and scored early in the second quarter when Matthew Palazzo hit Taivonn Ervin for the 42-yard score.

Tusculum opened the second half right-footed and took the lead when Palazzo found Kemani Brown. That missed extra point haunted the Wasps as the score was 14-13 Pioneers.

However, Emory & Henry were able to quickly find an answer as Charles Mutter III found Tristan Stitt for the 10-yard touchdown.

Tusculum’s defense once again made it a game. Corey Moraux recovered the fumble in the end zone, making it 21:20 for Tusculum at the start of the fourth.

Trace Butcher redeemed himself after several missed field goals and the first missed extra point by returning the lead to the Wasps with a 42-yard field goal.

It all came down to a JA Pittman field goal attempt for Tusculum. The 37-yard attempt was blocked by Chad Pouncy, sealing the win for the Wasps.

Emory & Henry held on to win 23-21.

Anderson 20, UVA Wise 13

UVA Wise hosted Anderson on Saturday. The Cavs had some early trouble when Jake Corkren was picked off, but the Trojans’ field goal attempt was useless, so no damage was done.

From there, the Cavs marched down the field and ended with a touchdown reception from Dorien Goddard.

UVA Wise would hold the 7-0 lead through one quarter. Anderson tied the score early in the second quarter before a 29-yard field goal from Jordan Crabtree helped the Cavs take a 10-7 lead into halftime.

Back-to-back touchdowns for the Trojans put the Cavs behind 20-10 midway through the third period, but they pulled back a bit when Crabtree hit a 19-yarder to make it 20-13.

Unfortunately for the UVA-Wise fans, that was the end of the day’s scoring and Anderson secured the 20-13 victory.
