1 dead, 6 injured in car crash in Santa Rosa

At least one person has died and six others were injured after two cars collided on a highway in Santa Rosa Saturday afternoon.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around noon when a four-passenger Honda lost control southbound on the 101 and veered into left-hand northbound traffic with a Subaru passing.

Officials said the deceased person was sitting on the right side of the Honda, although it is unclear at this time whether he was sitting in the front or back seat. Officers confirmed the passenger was seated where the impact occurred.

According to officials, there was no median wall between the lanes to prevent the accident.

The roads were temporarily closed but have since reopened.

The Subaru also carried four passengers.

Six other people were taken to hospital; their condition is currently unknown.

It is unclear whether speed, drugs or alcohol played a role in the accident.
