A mass shooting early Saturday morning leaves one man dead and at least 14 others injured at Patty’s Venue in southwest Oklahoma City. According to police, the shooting occurred around 12:30 p.m

“It is believed that there were two groups of people who got into some type of argument, shots were fired during that altercation,” said Capt. Valerie Littlejohn, Oklahoma City police spokeswoman.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic as shots rang out and many people fell to the ground or ran from the building in fear. A shooting victim was found dead outside. Jose Avila, a friend of the victim, identified the deceased as a 19-year-old man.

“The young man who died was my friend,” he said. “I didn’t know that until now.”

The aftermath at the venue showed broken glass, beer cans, a shoe and remnants of a Halloween costume scattered throughout the area.

“It’s just one of those things where you get into an argument and under the influence it goes to zero very quickly,” Avila added.

According to police, at least twelve other people were shot and taken to the hospital. Investigators are still working on clues to the suspect.

“It is believed that rifles were involved in the shooting,” Captain Littlejohn said. “I don’t know the type of weapons, but it appears that several different shooters and different weapons were used.”

In daylight, personal belongings and empty alcohol bottles were left in the venue, a stark reminder of the violence that had taken place. Other witnesses returned to collect their belongings and cars parked outside the venue. At last check, two of the shooting victims were in critical condition. There is no information about the condition of the other gunshot victims.

“We’re going to interview everyone we have and try to figure out what happened and what led to this event,” Captain Littlejohn said.

Investigators are reviewing cell phone videos from witnesses and working on surveillance of the building
