In 1990, Diddy began an internship at Uptown Records. He rose quickly through the ranks, although not without controversy. Soon, other employees encouraged Harrell to fire Diddy. They reportedly called him “Satan” and insulted him as he walked by. Finally, Harrell gave in to the pressure.

“I’m going to fire Puff, he’s getting a little too big for himself,” Harrell reportedly said, according to Rolling Stone. “He harasses people.”
