The community of Bristol remembers fallen police officers on the two-year anniversary of their deaths

BRISTOL, CT (WFSB) – A solemn day in Bristol as Saturday marked the second anniversary of Bristol Police Department Lieutenant Dustin Demonte and Sergeant Alex Hamzy being killed in the line of duty.

Homes on Rosewood Drive, known for elaborate decorations and light displays, will have a blue light show.

Homes will be lit blue and blue lights will point into the sky to honor the fallen officers.

The multi-day commemoration ceremonies in the community will continue on Saturday evening.

A new memorial to the officers was unveiled at the Bristol Police Department on Friday. The ceremony was also attended by fellow officers and the families of Demonte and Hamzy.

Bristol Police Union president and detective Peter Dauphinais said that while the loss was heartbreaking, the community had contributed to the healing process.

“It is a loss that I believe we will never forget. Personally, I know these two guys very, very well. They were friends and it leaves a void. It’s comforting how much the community cared about us and was always there for us, and it made things a little easier,” he said.

The lighting begins at 6:00 p.m. and runs until 9:00 p.m
