Turkish man stabs police officers on Istiklal Avenue

A 34-year-old Turkish man stabbed a police officer on Istanbul’s famous Istiklal Street during the day on October 12.

Camera footage of the incident shows the man approached the officer from behind and stabbed him in the neck.

The 34-year-old man with the initials OI was later caught in the Kasımpaşa district, Istanbul police said.

“The person had a previous conviction for drug use and disturbing the peace and tranquility of people and was undergoing psychological treatment,” the statement continued.

The police officer is slightly injured and is being treated in a hospital.
