JD Vance now says it’s “crazy” that women aren’t having children because of climate change

JD Vance, in his recent comments on the choices of childless Americans, said it was “crazy” and “very crazy” for women not to have children because of the climate crisis.

Donald Trump’s vice president barely shrugged off backlash for calling Kamala Harris and other Democrats “childless cat ladies” in a resurfaced 2021 interview with Tucker Carlson.

Now in a new interview with The New York Times In the study published on Saturday, the VP candidate was again confronted with his previous sexist comments less than a month before the election.

While Vance admitted that his comments about “childless cat ladies” were “stupid,” he continued to stand by his argument, claiming that the US has become “almost pathologically anti-children” and that children not having children because of concerns about climate change is bizarre .”

“Look, those were stupid comments. I think most people probably said something stupid, said something that they wish they had said differently,” he said, before emphasizing that he wasn’t talking about “people who just didn’t work out Medical reasons, social reasons.” Reasons like putting that aside, we’re not talking about people like that here.”

“What I was ultimately trying to illustrate, in a very inarticulate way, is that I believe our country has become almost pathologically anti-child,” he said.

Vance further described this so-called “pathological frustration with children” as “very dark” and suggested that it is “sociopathic” to consider climate change when deciding whether or not to have children.

“I think you see it sometimes in the political discussion when people say, well, maybe we shouldn’t have children because of climate change. “Do you know when I used that word sociopathic?” he said.

“I think it’s a very crazy idea: the idea that you shouldn’t start a family because you’re worried about climate change.”

Asked whether he thought it was “sociopathic” that some women are not having children because of fear of climate change, Vance said: “I think that’s a bizarre way to think about the future.” None because of fear of climate change to have children? … Yeah, I think that’s a really, really crazy way to think about the world.”

The Ohio senator’s latest comments about American women’s lifestyle choices come after a 2021 interview resurfaced almost immediately after Vance was selected to join Trump on the Republican Party ticket.

In the interview, Vance said that the United States is run by “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are unhappy with their own lives and the choices they’ve made and therefore want to make the rest of the country unhappy too.”

“Look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,” he continued.

“How does it even make sense that we handed our land over to people who actually have no direct interest in it?”

Public figures including Jennifer Aniston, Harris’ family members, Democratic lawmakers and ordinary Americans reacted outraged to the comments.

Vance quickly switched to damage control, defending his comments with various explanations ranging from “sarcasm” to plain “truth.”

Last week, Harris hit back at the rhetoric, saying that Call her dad “I’m Sorry” podcast featured Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders, who further expanded on Vance’s comments by saying Harris doesn’t have children “to keep her humble.”

In the new Just In the interview, Vance also attempted to walk back or explain some other past controversies — from his comments about hating police to his stance on a national abortion ban.

“I agree with states making these decisions, even if they make decisions that JD Vance or Donald Trump may not make,” he claimed on the latter.

During the VP debate, Vance falsely claimed that he had “never supported a national abortion ban” but instead supported “a national minimum standard.”

That was untrue. In 2022, when he was running for Senate, Vance told the Very fine people In the podcast, he “definitely wished that abortion would be illegal nationwide.” He also supported a proposal to impose a nationwide ban on abortion in the 15th week of pregnancy.
