Rhode Island, Massachusetts police departments warn of scams involving people impersonating police officers – Fall River Reporter

• The fraudster demands a large payment to redeem the warrant via Bitcoin ATM, Apple Pay, or other electronic methods.

• Scammers may also leave voicemails using the official police phone number as caller ID and asking the resident to call back at a different number.

Police will never ask for payment via phone, Bitcoin or other electronic payment methods.

If you receive a call of this nature, do not answer it, hang up immediately and contact the local police. Remember to never give out your personal or financial information over the phone.

Several police departments in Massachusetts, including those in Brookline and Bridgewater, have recently reported victims of similar scams.
