Skokie man stopped in his vehicle and stabbed in left arm by cyclist in traffic accident in downtown Des Plaines – Cardinal News

Des Plaines police are investigating a stabbing that occurred on Friday, October 11, 2024, on the roadway near the Metra station in the 1500 block of Miner Street (US-14) in downtown Des Plaines.

Police officers, firefighters and paramedics responded to a report of a stabbing in the 1500 block of Miner Street at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024.


Upon arrival, officers discovered a 53-year-old Skokie man standing in the roadway suffering from multiple stab wounds to his left arm. Police officers quickly performed life-saving measures to stop the bleeding, and paramedics immediately arrived to take over the emergency room and transport the victim to Level 1 Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with serious injuries.


A preliminary investigation revealed that while the Skokie resident was driving his vehicle westbound on Miner Street (US-14 WEST), he encountered a male bicyclist in the roadway. There was an exchange of words between the driver and the cyclist. The cyclist then drove along the driver’s side of the stopped vehicle. With the window down, more words were exchanged and the cyclist began punching the driver through the open window of the vehicle. When the driver, who was still seated, began to defend himself, the cyclist allegedly pulled a knife out of his pocket and stabbed the driver several times.

The physical description provided by Des Plaines Police revealed the gunman on the bicycle to be a man approximately 30 to 40 years old with an olive complexion who was last seen wearing (LSW) a gray tank top , khaki shorts and a backpack.

The perpetrator fled the scene before police arrived.

According to Des Plaines police, the investigation is ongoing and the crime initially appears to be an isolated traffic incident. Police officers searched the area looking for security video cameras that may have filmed the crime in which the suspect was involved or the suspect during his journey before the crime or after his escape from the crime.

Initial radio reports indicated that the stabbing occurred at the Metra station, but the stabbing occurred on Miner Street (US-14 WEST) to the west near the Metra station…


The crime scene was near Miner Street and Metropolitan Way in downtown Des Plaines.
