Cyclist died after being hit by a car in Glendale

GLENDALE, AZ (AZFamily) – A man is dead after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Glendale Saturday morning.

At approximately 9:45 a.m., Glendale police were called to a one-car, one-person crash near Colter Street and 59th Avenue, north of Camelback Road.

According to police, a vehicle was traveling south when it struck a man on a bicycle who strayed into the road. The cyclist died at the scene of the accident and could not be identified. The driver remained on scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

Police believe impairment was not to blame for the accident.

The northbound and southbound lanes of 59th Avenue from Camelback Road to Missouri Avenue are closed while emergency crews clear the scene and investigate the accident. The eastbound and westbound lanes of Colter Street are also closed.

There is no expected reopening date. Police advise drivers to use 67th or 51st Avenue as an alternate route.
