Shots were fired at a Jewish girls’ school in Toronto overnight: police

Shots were fired at a Jewish girls’ elementary school in Toronto for the second time since May, police said.

Around 4 a.m. Saturday, suspects allegedly “discharged a firearm” in a motor vehicle at Bais Chaya Mushka Girls Elementary School in North York, Toronto police said Saturday morning.

There were no reports of injuries, police said.

A police spokesperson told CBC Toronto that investigators could provide further details to the media this afternoon.

Chesswood Drive is closed in both directions while police investigate, police said. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

To X, Coun. Brad Bradford responded to the police post on Saturday and condemned the act against a Jewish school on Yom Kippur, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar.

“Anti-Semitism has increased in our city without countermeasures,” he said in the post.

Police did not say whether the incident was being investigated as a hate crime.

The school experienced a similar incident in May

This is not the first time this year that shots have been fired at the empty school in the early hours of the morning.

In May, police launched an investigation after unknown suspects allegedly shot at the school early Saturday morning.

After this shooting, community members and politicians held a rally condemning hate and anti-Semitism.

Prime Minister Doug Ford also condemned the shooting at a news conference days after the incident, controversially declaring that immigrants were responsible, despite there being no evidence to support it.
