Alexandra Burke refused to film a disturbing scene in gritty new drama Curfew

Alexandra Burke has revealed she refused to film a particularly disturbing scene in the dark new drama Curfew.

The new Paramount+ drama is set in a world with a new women’s safety law that requires men to wear electronic tags and stay home between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. every night.

Burke, who made her film acting debut last year, plays Helen, a high school teacher, while Sarah Parish plays a DI who investigates a woman’s murder committed during curfew.

In conversation with Radio TimesBurke revealed that she signed on to the project without realizing how dark some of the material was, and fought to have one of the most disturbing scenes cut from the series.

“I remember reading it [the script] And then I find out something specific about Helen, which I don’t want to say, but when you find out something specific about her, I remember thinking to myself, “God, this is going to be the most challenging thing I’ve ever done.” , she said.

“They gave me more details about Helen [and] I thought, ‘There are some things I don’t think I can do,'” she continued. “So I had to talk to the producer because I thought, ‘I don’t think I can do this morally, and I don’t think this is something that should be shown on television.'”

Luckily for Burke, the producer agreed with her reasoning and removed the part in question from the project.

“They agreed and took something out,” she said. “I said, ‘Thanks, because I don’t think I could do that. And you’ve already done a few scenes with me, darling, so the deal is done!'”

In the interview, Burke also praised author Joasia Goldyn for her openness to collaboration.

“It was just interesting that you could contribute your thoughts and be heard,” she said. “I didn’t even know something like this could happen.”
