Suspect shot by police in Brighton Park shooting – NBC Chicago

A Chicago police officer shot and wounded a man wanted for aggravated assault in a shootout in Brighton Park early Saturday, police said.

According to Chicago police, officers responded to a call about aggravated assault and a person with a weapon at a store in the 3900 block of South Kedzie Avenue around 12:20 p.m.

Police found a man with a gun who fired shots as officers tried to disarm him. According to police, at least one officer fired back and struck the suspect.

Officers began providing first aid to the suspect and he was taken to a nearby hospital where his condition was stabilized.

No officers were shot during the exchange of fire.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is investigating the incident. The officials involved will be entrusted with administrative tasks for at least one month.
