Arrested for attempted murder following serious bodily harm

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after another man was seriously injured in an attack.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Boden Street car park in Chard, Somerset, shortly after 4pm BST on Thursday following reports of an altercation between two men.

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Later that evening, officers arrested a man in his 50s who remains in police custody.

He is believed to have left the area in a white Volkswagen sedan following the incident.

Det Insp Nick Riley said: “This was a shocking incident in which the victim suffered significant injuries. However, we do not believe there is any major risk to the public.”

“I would urge anyone who saw what happened or who has dashcam or CCTV footage that captured the incident or a white Volkswagen in the area at the time to contact us.”
