The imprisoned Michigan doctor faces 17 additional charges for alleged sex crimes

(CBS DETROIT) – The imprisoned Dr. Oumair Aejaz faces 17 additional felony charges between 2023 and 2024 for allegedly sexually abusing a then-5-year-old child in Novi, according to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office.

The public prosecutor announced the following charges against the 40-year-old doctor:

  • Two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct
  • Three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct
  • Three cases of serious sexual abuse of children
  • In three cases, images of an unclothed person were taken
  • Six counts of using a computer to commit a felony

The indictment comes two months later Aejaz was arrested on charges that he secretly recorded five adults and children at the Goldfish Swim Club in Rochester, he also allegedly used hidden cameras to film women and children in rooms such as hospital rooms and bedrooms, and he allegedly filmed himself sexually abusing unconscious hospital patients.

“I have never seen a typical situation like this, when you have a sex offender who has a specific target, little boys, young girls, young women, old women, whatever the case may be, this person has no target group. “Anyone may be part of the circle he violated,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.

Investigators have been working over the past two months to identify people who may have been victims. Bouchard told CBS Detroit that unfortunately, due to the scope of this investigation, he believes this is not the final indictment against Aejaz. He says there could potentially be hundreds of victims.

“The numbers could be overwhelming and shocking, and the bigger challenge we face is that many of them may not even know they have been victimized,” Bouchard said.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, Aejaz worked at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc Township and Henry Ford Hospital Macomb in Clinton Township.

“We know there are additional victims and we ask anyone with information to contact the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office at [email protected],” Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said in a statement.
