School bus car accident sends children to hospital

NEWBURGH – A West Point Tours school bus transporting students to Most Precious Blood in Walden was involved in an accident at the intersection of Broadway and Wisner Avenue in the town of Newburgh.

The accident occurred on Friday around 7:45 a.m.

Three students were taken to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital by Empress EMS and another reportedly went to the hospital with a parent.

According to authorities, all injuries appeared to be minor and non-life-threatening.

Other children on the bus were examined and escorted to another bus to continue to Walden.

The Newburgh City Police Department is investigating the cause of the accident.

The city fire department also responded and notified the state Environmental Protection Agency about a gas leak from the vehicle.
