R. Kelly’s daughter accuses him of sexually abusing her as a child

R. Kelly’s daughter Buku Abi has spoken out about the alleged sexual abuse she suffered during her childhood.

Earlier this month it was announced that Abi – real name Joanne Kelly – would star as the host of a new documentary about the disgraced musician, which will feature “raw and emotional” interviews with Abi and her siblings Jaah Kelly and Robert Kelly Jr includes mother Drea Kelly, who was married to R. Kelly from 1996 to 2009.

In the first episode of R Kelly’s Karma: A Daughter’s JourneyAbi accuses the singer of having abused her as a child. “He was my everything. “For a long time I didn’t even want to believe it happened,” Abi said in the first episode of the two-parter People.

“I didn’t know he would hurt me even if he was a bad person. I was too scared to tell anyone,” she added. “I was too afraid to tell my mother.”

In the second episode, she recalled how she “woke up to him touching me” while pretending to be asleep and said she first told her mother in 2009 when she was 10.

“I really feel like that one millisecond completely changed my entire life and who I was as a person and how the shine that I had and the light that I carried was changed,” she continued.

“After I told my mother, I stopped going there; my brother [Robert] and sister [Jaah]We didn’t go there anymore. And even up to now I have a lot of trouble with it.”

Buku said that after she finally told her mother what had happened, they went to the police and filed a report as “Jane Doe,” but, as she adds in the documentary, “They couldn’t prosecute him because I was too.” “I’ve waited a long time.” At this point in my life, I felt like I had said something in vain.”

In a statement to be shared with PeopleKelly’s lawyer, Jennifer Bonjean, said Kelly “vehemently denies” the allegations.

“His ex-wife made the same claim years ago, which was investigated by the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services and found to be unfounded,” Bonjean said.

“And the ‘filmmakers,’ whoever they are, have not contacted Mr. Kelly or his team to even allow him to deny these hurtful allegations.”

After the release of the 2019 Lifetime docuseries Survivor R. KellyAbi had expressed her support for the singer’s accusers in a statement, saying: “You all are the same monster [are] What takes me to task is my father. I know exactly who and what he is.

“I grew up in this house. My decision not to talk about him and what he does is for my peace of mind. My emotional state. And for MY healing. I have to do and move in the way that is best for me.”

Earlier this year, a federal appeals court in Chicago upheld R. Kelly’s conviction and 20-year prison sentence for possession of child pornography and child enticement.

The singer was found guilty in September on six of 13 counts of possession and production of child pornography and enticement of minors. In February he was sentenced to 20 years in prison, but will serve almost all of his sentence concurrently with the prison sentence he received last year for racketeering and human trafficking.

The additional sentence means Kelly will now serve a total of 31 years in prison and will not be eligible for release until he is 80.
