This weekend is a great opportunity to see some of the latest BMWs in Greece. Not only the new X3 M50 can be seen at Auto Athina 2024, but also the latest generation 1 Series. Even though it’s not the range-topping M135, this F70 looks sharp with the optional M Sport package. The luxury hatchback is presented in Skyscraper Gray with standard 18-inch wheels. If you’re feeling adventurous, optional 19-inch alloy wheels are available.

BMW seems to be a big fan of glossy black accents and the new 1 Series is no exception. This version takes it to the next level as it features a contrasting black roof, which customers pay a premium for. Since it is not an M Performance version, it features the standard grille design. The kidneys look unorthodox due to the combination of vertical and diagonal bars. On the M135, the grille design is much more aggressive, featuring horizontal lines modeled on real M cars.

Compared to the F40 before it, the new generation is slightly larger. It is 42mm (1.6 inches) longer and 25mm (1 inch) taller, while the width has remained almost unchanged. The exterior design looks more like a Life Cycle Impulse (LCI) than a full-fledged next-generation car. One element that has caused a lot of controversy is the headlight design, leading many people to associate the 1 Series’ appearance with that of a Kia Cee’d. There’s no denying that there are certain similarities, but BMW is hoping to attract buyers with a more premium product.

Customer deliveries of the 1 Series have already begun in some parts of Europe. BMW expects Germany to be the main market for the F70, followed by other Euro countries and Japan. The car is built in Leipzig and continues to ride on a front-wheel drive platform with transversely mounted engines. It is one of the few BMWs that are offered with a three-cylinder engine.

Once again, the 1 Series will spawn a sedan with greater availability as the 2 Series Gran Coupe is sold in the United States. The premiere of the F74 is expected any day.
