Mysuru-Darbhanga train accident: Restoration work is underway at the site in Kavarapettai

Track rehabilitation work is underway at the accident site in Kavaraipettai, where the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express rammed into a freight train on Friday night (October 11, 2024).

The General Manager and Additional General Manager of the Southern Railway along with the Heads of Departments and other officials of the Railways are at the spot and supervising the work.

All the passengers were rescued and either taken to Chennai Central to board a special train to Darbhanga on Saturday morning (October 12, 2024) or taken to hospitals. Among the injured, three seriously injured passengers were admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital and four passengers with minor injuries who were treated at Government Hospital Ponneri were given the usual ex-gratia payment.

Meanwhile, the stranded passengers of Train No. 12578 Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express were transported to Ponneri and Chennai Central by two EMU special buses early on Saturday morning.

At Chennai Central, railway doctors conducted medical examination of the passengers. They were then provided with food and water and boarded the special passenger train bound for Darbhanga via Arakkonam, Renigunta and Gudur. The special train left at 4:45 a.m. from Dr. MGR Chennai Central from.

Train diversions

Due to the train accident, the following changes have occurred in the train service schedule: Train No. 22802 (Dr. MGR Chennai Central-Visakhapatnam Express), which was scheduled to depart on Saturday at 10 am, has been postponed to 12.30 pm (late departure by 2 hours and 30 minutes) . It will pass through the rerouted route of Arakkonam, Renigunta and Gudur, skipping the break at Sulurupett.
