A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy shot and killed a domestic violence suspect in Castaic on Friday and took him to the hospital.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the incident was reported around midday near Sloan Canyon and Parker Road in the community north of Santa Clarita.

Officers were called to the area after learning of shots fired in the area and when they arrived, they found an adult male and female standing next to a parked car near the intersection.

“The suspect was involved in a domestic incident with the victim when the responding officer arrived on the scene,” a LASD statement said. “The deputy observed the suspect produce a weapon and a shootout ensued.”

They said they recovered a firearm at the scene and with SkyCal overhead, what appeared to be a handgun was spotted on the street near the white sedan where the couple was first spotted by law enforcement.

The unidentified man was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

No officers were injured, sheriff’s officials said.
