The shooting of an eight-month pregnant woman, one of three at Orosi hospital, was caught on camera

TULARE COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — An eight-month pregnant woman was one of three people hospitalized in a South Valley shooting that was caught on camera Thursday night.

The video above is from an earlier version of this story and will be updated.

According to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred in the gaming area of the Orosi Sports Complex around 8:15 p.m.

According to officials, a 16-year-old boy, a 20-year-old man and the 23-year-old pregnant woman were walking when they heard gunshots and realized they had been hit.

Surveillance footage shows a person wearing a gray hoodie and blue medical mask crawling out from behind the group and firing more than five shots at them.

The suspect can then be seen running away in the opposite direction.

“They heard the shots and then looked down at three of those four people and realized they had been shot,” said Ashley Ritchie with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

“Luckily she was shot in the foot and toe – I think the ankle. One of the men was shot in the middle and another, I think, in the torso.”

All three victims were rushed to the hospital and listed as stable.

The pregnant woman was awaiting surgery, but she and her baby are expected to survive.

“It could have been a lot worse and we’re thankful it didn’t happen,” Ritchie said.

The sports complex is a focal point for many.

It is located between El Monte Middle School and Orosi High School, not far from where Manuel Munoz Martin lives.

“I heard a helicopter. I live in Cutler and thought something was going on. I heard a helicopter, the ambulance, the fire department, the sheriff, you know,” Martin recalls.

Martin says he never goes for a walk at night.

“That doesn’t surprise me,” Martin said. “You don’t think it happens in small communities, but it happens. All (those) big city problems, we have (them) here too.”

Investigators are actively analyzing footage from surveillance cameras located throughout the complex to identify the suspect and a motive.

“We are still investigating whether this has anything to do with a gang. Anyone who watches the video can hardly believe he was targeted,” Ritchie said.

“It looks like they are in the video, but that is still an integral part of the investigation.”
