Netflix viewers demand “immediate return” of crime drama | Television & Radio | Showbiz and television

Netflix viewers are desperate to see a psychological crime thriller based on a true crime book come back to the big screen. Mindhunter is based on the 1995 book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit.

The series debuted in 2017 but only ran for two seasons before being canceled. One of the main executive producers was David Fincher and in January 2020, Netflix announced that the potential for a third season had been shelved indefinitely as he wanted to pursue other projects.

At the time, it was assumed that the series might be picked up again in the future, but in February 2023, Fincher confirmed that it was officially over. A Netflix representative told TV Line in 2020, “David is focused on directing his first Netflix film, Mank, and producing the second season of Love, Death and Robots.”

“Perhaps he will revisit Mindhunter in the future, but in the meantime he felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to stop them from looking for other work while he moved on to new work of his own.” Fincher admitted that the show was expensive to produce and the viewership wasn’t necessarily worth the cost.

In 2023, he told Forbes: “I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s a very expensive show and in Netflix’s eyes we haven’t attracted enough of an audience to justify such an investment.” Since then, viewers have shared their thoughts on how the show is getting a new lease of life.

Paula Antoszak wrote in a Vine Facebook post asking viewers which shows they would like to see brought back “immediately”: “Mindhunter. I don’t care that it’s Netflix. It deserves to be continued.”

Many fans agreed with Vince Lopez’s statement: “I’ve been looking for someone to name this and I’m glad it was mentioned, by far a cliffhanger that I can’t resist wanting more of.”

Mike Scanlan shared, “Before I Done It, the best two seasons of a show ever.”

Timko’s Tavern added: “I just rewatched the first two seasons. I was really looking forward to the third season of BTK.”

Jade Amber commented: “I totally agree, it was absolutely excellent!” While Shawzie Lunsford shared: “This show was so good!”

The series revolved around FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany) and psychologist Wendy Carr (Anna Torv).

They led the FBI’s Behavioral Sciences Division within the Training Division of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Together, they began a research project to interview imprisoned serial killers to understand their psychology, hoping to apply this knowledge to solving ongoing cases.
