Man found guilty in fatal shooting in Denver on Christmas Day 2022

DENVER – A man has been convicted of first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Denver on Christmas Day 2022.

Officers were dispatched to the 4800 block of North Crown Boulevard on December 25, 2022 at approximately 5:50 p.m. for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found 25-year-old Torrese Gill suffering from a gunshot wound.

Gill was taken to hospital where he later died.

After an investigation, authorities arrested 26-year-old Dydrick Martin in connection with the shooting.

According to Martin’s affidavit, he and Gill “began arguing and a physical confrontation ensued.” Martin allegedly produced a handgun from his jacket and the two men began fighting over the weapon.

The two were “rolling around on the ground” when the gun fired, the affidavit said. Gill was fatally shot in the neck and Martin ran away.

Martin was convicted Friday of first-degree murder, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said. According to the DA’s office, he faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Martin is scheduled to be sentenced on October 17.
