Fatal motorcycle accident claims life of Burnsville teenager

BURNSVILLE, MINNESOTA – A tragic two-vehicle accident involving a motorcycle and another vehicle left a 17-year-old Burnsville resident dead on the evening of Thursday, October 10, 2024. The accident occurred at the I-35W northbound exit and Burnsville Parkway. Emergency responders from the Burnsville Police Department, Burnsville Fire Department and the Minnesota State Patrol responded to the scene.

An official press release from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner confirmed that the motorcyclist was identified as Peter Vsevolod Genis, a 17-year-old male from Burnsville, Minnesota. The report confirms that Genis died from the traumatic brain injuries he sustained in the collision.

According to a GoFundMe set up by Peter Genis’ family, Peter, who would turn 18 in November, was riding his motorcycle home from the gym when the fatal accident occurred not far from his home. In their GoFundMe, the family said Peter had a “genuine and contagious laugh” and was known for his ability to bring joy to those around him. His family described him as one of the smartest people they knew and planned to go to college next year to study mechanical engineering. “I know he would have done great,” the family wrote, emphasizing Peter’s passion and bright future.

Burnsville police are conducting the investigation into the accident with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol because the exact cause is not yet determined.

Peter Genis’ family has set up a GoFundMe to cover unexpected funeral costs. In their emotional appeal, Peter’s family expressed the enormous difficulty of having to think about funeral costs for a younger brother. “This is an incredibly difficult time for my family and I, and it is even more difficult to receive funds that people want to donate. Anything you can donate would be greatly appreciated.” If you would like to help the family, here is a link to the GoFundMe: Help honor the memory of Peter Genis.
