25News reporter experiences a haunted house

BARTONVILLE (25News Now) – 25News reporter Sam Matheny took a chance and walked through the Aura Haunted House in Bartonville.

There was a lot of screaming and laughing.

Aura is part of the former Peoria State Hospital, which treated psychiatric patients until its closure in 1973.

According to their website, tuberculosis was the leading cause of hospital death in 1906. Before the cure, the high number of deaths convinced the surgeon Dr. George Zeller, to contain the spread of the disease by separating the sick.
