WALES – Two men were hospitalized and a third was jailed after a fight on Bradstreet Drive Thursday.

Walter Rines Androscoggin County Jail

Walter Rines, 36, of 15 Meadow Lane, Sabattus, was arrested by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office on charges of assault and aggravated assault. He was arrested at his home on Thursday morning.

According to police, two men were seriously injured in the attack. Both were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

One of the victims was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland due to the extent of his injuries, according to police.

Sheriff’s investigators did not release the names of the two victims. They also did not describe how the attacks occurred, although police said both victims were being treated for head injuries.

Sheriff’s investigators were assisted by the Sabattus Police Department and the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit as their investigation into the alleged assaults continued.

Rines was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where bail was initially set at $20,000. After Rines appeared in court Friday, bail was increased to $50,000.

An aggravated assault charge typically indicates that a suspect intentionally inflicted serious bodily harm on another with a dangerous weapon or “exhibited conduct that demonstrates a depraved indifference to the value of human life.” “.
