Child is traumatized after being robbed by woman at New York market, mother says

THE BRONX, NY (PIX11) – A 7-year-old boy was trying to gain a sense of independence and pay for fruit himself at a New York City market last month when a woman snatched the money right out of his hands, his mother said.

According to the NYPD, the robbery occurred around 11:40 a.m. on September 24 at a market at 1356 Jerome Ave. in the Bronx.

Surveillance video shows a woman taking cash from the child’s hand. When the child’s mother tried to intervene, the woman allegedly hit her and then fled, police said.

The mother said she was scared and trying to protect her two children, both of whom have special needs.

The mother said the incident not only traumatized her son but also shocked her, especially because the woman was still running around.

The owner of the market said he saw the woman walking around the neighborhood asking people for money.

Police are still working to identify and arrest the woman.
