Man pleads for stabbing his 7-year-old brother

NORWALK, Calif. – A man accused of stabbing his 7-year-old brother to death at the family’s Whittier home has pleaded no contest to attempted murder.

Cristian Gutierrez, now 25, was immediately sentenced to 12 years in state prison after pleading no contest on Thursday, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Gutierrez was accused of attacking the boy during a family argument May 9 at a home in the 9500 block of Ben Hur Avenue, authorities said.

The defendant was arrested by Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies early the next morning and has been behind bars since then, jail records show.
