Officers are investigating officer-involved shooting in Castaic

Officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are investigating a report of a domestic disturbance that led to an officer-involved shooting in Castaic Friday afternoon, according to station officials.

Station officials said residents in the area were asked to avoid Parker Road as a result of the investigation. There are no outstanding suspects.

According to Deputy Robert Jensen of the SCV Sheriff’s Station, officers responded to the intersection of Sloan Canyon and Parker streets to a call reporting shots fired during a domestic dispute around 12:05 p.m. Friday.

He said the first report of the call came in when shots were fired about a possible domestic violence incident involving a man holding a woman near the intersection, which is near the 28000 block of Sloan Canyon Road is located.

Jensen said that when officers arrived there was a confrontation that led to an officer-involved shootout in which a man was struck by gunfire.

No officers were injured in the shooting, according to station officials, and the status of the man struck by gunfire was not immediately available.

As Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officers conducted an hours-long investigation, some residents passing by stopped to take a look at the crime scene.

Homicide detectives arrived shortly before 4 p.m. to further investigate the incident, but no further details about the altercation were provided and no further information was available.

Lt. Omar Comacho of the sheriff’s homicide unit is leading the investigation, which officials say is procedural policy for any officer-involved shooting.

He could not immediately be reached for comment on Friday evening.

The William S. Hart Union High School District warned parents about the incident due to its proximity to campus.

Fire officials received a call at 12:11 p.m. and crews were on scene five minutes later. One person was transported from the scene, but their status was unknown at the time this story was published.
While the incident remains under investigation, domestic violence is a growing problem in the community, according to crime data reported by the LA County Sheriff’s Department, according to available LASD data and statements from officials.

Sheriff’s station Capt. Justin Diez, who was at the scene of Friday’s shooting, had previously said domestic violence accounted for the majority of aggravated assaults reported to police this year, comparing the number according to the most recent data increased by a total of 4% compared to the previous year.
